What restaurants in New York City serve both simple and fancy meals?

My new boyfriend and I are planning a long weekend to New York City. His restaurant orders are limited to fried chicken strips, fried shrimp, french fries, pizza, french toast, and hash browns (seriously, been dating 2 months and that’s all I’ve seen him eat out in public! He’ll eat his mom’s pot roast and mostaccioli). I on the other hand will try almost everything, and although I can always go for the simple stuff I’d love to go to a nice restaurant for once and eat things I only see on tv lol. HELP!!! We will probably be staying in the midtown area, thursday evening through sunday afternoon. Thanks!

Well, why not try something right up his alley? There is a great “home cooked meal” place called Chat and Chew near Union Square. (just one short subway stop from grand central) they have killer mac n cheese, but lots of other fun stuff too.

If you are looking not to leave the times square area and would like to go a little bit away from the crowd you can try a place called Virgil’s that serves wicked good BBQ.

It’s hard to tell you where to go with such a limited choice of food. My best suggestion is this. Walk over to Hell’s Kitchen… start at 42nd street and 9th avenue ( just a few blocks from times square) walk all the way up to 50/55th. Look in all the restaurants until you can agree on a place. There are tons of fun and funky places that serve every different taste.

Good luck.
