Is it true that fat people are dumb?
Of course not! This is a typical case of stereotype. We often heard of people making snide remarks at their heavier counterparts. It is unfortunate that negative traits such as lazy, slow, dumb, greedy to name a few, are often associated with people who are overweight.
This kind of pressure that society adds on to people who are overweight is definitely overwhelming enough for them to go all out and seek for the solution to help themlose weight. There are some who even went on the extreme to starve themselves thinking that this is the fastest way to lose all the extra weight they carry on them. Unfortunately, after subjecting themselves to all sorts of fad diets they can lay their hands on, more often than not, they end up struggling helplessly as the unwanted weights keep on coming.
How many of you have wished that you own the perfect body; washboard abs, toned arms and legs and not forgetting a firm butt? This is the dream body shape that everybody yearns to have. So the next question is, is the dream body shape even existent? I guess it is not hard to identify famous personalities and celebrities who cut that dream body. Maybe it is in the genes, you may say. Well, true to some certain extend as genetic makeup does determine our body shape. So does that mean that the rest of us who are not blessed with good genes are banished to remain fat? Of course not! If you do not incorporate healthy eating habits and regular exercise into your lifestyle, having good genes does not guarantee that you will stay slim forever. Therefore, the bottom line is to adopt a healthy lifestyle through a balanced diet and consistent exercise. This is your best bet to lose weight.
It is actually unrealistic to yearn to achieve the perfect body shape as we are unique individuals and some people may have smaller frames and their body may react differently to the same kind of diet and workout. If you are planning to lose weight, the first thing to do is to set a realistic target which is achievable. No point targeting to lose 10kg in a month and you will only end up in frustration and quit soon after.
You must remember that diet and physical activities go hand in hand if you intend to embark on a weight loss program. What you need to do next after setting your target is to evaluate your eating habits. Start a food journal and record every morsel of food that goes into your mouth. You have to be truthful with yourself if you serious in wanting to identify what are your bad eating habits that are sabotaging your weight loss efforts. Next, do you revamp your wardrobe whenever there is a sale going on or when the season changes? Similarly, give your good old fridge the much needed revamp. Trash all the junk food or processed food you stored in the fridge. Replace them with fruits and veggies if possible. Substitute items in your fridge with lower fat options if possible.
After reviewing your eating habits comes exercise. I know that some people just hate to exercise and the only exercise they do is to switch on their TV using the remote control and reach for that packet of chips or the jar of chocolate chips cookies. Most of us lead a sedentary lifestyle and it is indeed a challenge to start on a exercise program. However, you need to realize that you have to make a choice to either lose weight or continue to blame your genes and remain fat. Now you decide on what size you want to be!
There is a saying “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” If you are determined to lose weight, you just have to get started somewhere and fit in exercise to your daily routine. It helps if you can engage in activities that you like. Go swimming if you hate running, pick up tennis or badminton if you would prefer. And if you have budget constraints, try brisk walking or you can choose to climb the stairs instead of taking the elevator wherever possible. Try to walk to the grocery store instead of driving. It takes about 3 weeks to build up a habit and once you have gained momentum, it will not be long before you can successfully incorporate all the good eating habits and regular exercise into your daily life. Start slow and gradually increase the frequency and intensity.
It may sound difficult but all the effort and hard work is worthwhile when you start to see that you no longer pant as hard after running after the bus or climbing that flight of stairs and eventually, you get to fit into your skinny jeans again. So, is there anything else that is stopping you to start your weight loss program?
